Chickens are the common and mostly raised poultry birds of Bangladesh. Though being a staple in the average Bangladeshi diet, chicken farming has its fair share of challenges. Lack of quality chicks, high price of feed, insufficient bank loan, lack of access to quality vaccines, are few of the common ones that poultry farmers of Bangladesh face. The main obstacles in developing commercial duck farming are lack of improved duck varieties, shortage of vaccines, traditional feeding practices, inadequate duck healthcare supports, unavailability of capital for farming, improper marketing facilities for the farm products, and overall lack of effective value chain from production to marketing.
iFarmer is now incorporating Chicken and Duck Farms to solve these issues. This investment is an averse investment portfolio, where we will be rolling the poultry stock every 42 days. This helps us minimize the market risk that might happen due to the fluctuation of prices as well.
Poultry is an important sub-sector for fostering agricultural growth and reduce malnutrition for the people in Bangladesh. 20% direct and 50% indirect employment has been created by the livestock and poultry sector. The contribution of livestock and poultry in GDP is 1.06% (Livestock Economy 2016-17). A major portion of animal proteins comes from this poultry meats and eggs. Though the production of meat and eggs increased in the last five years, Bangladesh is still running with a shortage of its required amount of animal proteins.
For people who are interested in the chicken and duck farming model, they can purchase a unit value of BDT 15,000 or the equivalent of 80 units (50 units of chicken and 30 units of duck). The financing period is 4 months with a return of 5% which will be distributed within 120 days. We expect to sell the poultry stock at meat weight to the local farm buyers and yield the return within 120 days time.
The funder will be receiving a yielded return after four (4) months (120 days), and at the end of the investment tenure, the funder will receive profit and actual funding amount.

What should be my expectations from my poultry farm units?
Team iFarmer purchases the production from the farm on behalf of the ‘Funder’ in the designated farm in advance and ensures proper management against risk and also provides a 360-degree regulatory service for the farm.
On completion of your fund payment, you will be allocated with total production of one farm, based on the availability in the project location and issued an ownership certificate bearing your name and the unique number of the share only for one production cycle.
