The livestock sub-sector is an important sub-sector of Bangladesh agriculture. Its contribution to the country’s GDP is about 2.5 percent. This sub-sector is also important from the perspectives of crop cultivation, food security, poverty reduction, nutrition, and employment generation in the country. Goat occupies a significant position as an animal genetic resource in the pre-dominantly agro-based farming system in Bangladesh.

Rural women in Bangladesh, tend to be keepers of goat in their role as primary caretakers of the household and family. This attention to gender-based realities is important when considering the intervention of iFarmer. Care and management of goats are relatively easy than poultry and other livestock farming and it consumes little time. It also requires limited space as a goat can be grazed close to the household. Therefore, it does not burden rural women with additional work, they can engage in rearing along with their daily household activities, often with the help of children. Ultimately, goat farming not only makes a vital contribution to household food and nutrition security but can also foster economic security, generate employment for local women and act as a family safety net during times of crisis.

We do not contrast against breeds; however, our expert team of professionals carefully select goats based on their ability to gain weight when fed a certain quantity of natural feed. Once the quality goat is selected, the designated farmer will rear it for one year in total. It is expected that the goat will give birth within 6 months and the profit will be shared with the funder after 6 months.

What should be my expectation from Goat Funding?

On completion of your funding, you will be allocated a goat and issued an ownership certificate bearing your name and the unique number of your goat on a specific farm. iFarmer will work as your goat portfolio manager for a fixed time period, the return would be disbursed in two halves 1st half (8.25%) on 6 months and on the 12th month of the duration, we will disburse the basic fund and rest of the return (8.25%) together to complete the project cycle.

What iFarmer offers as my Goat Portfolio Manager?

Team iFarmer purchases the goat for you, bears the cost of management, provides insurance for death or loss, maintains the farm, grass - which is the food for the goat, supplementary feed and, medicine and vaccinations.

What will be your return policy if the goat dies or anything unwilling happens?

It will be replaced by another one. In this way the death of your goat will not affect your dividend from the funding.

What will be the mode of payment and how are you going to disburse it?

Once the life cycle ends you will receive your basic funded amount and dividend in your designated bank account. Once the payment is done we will deliver you the 'Certificate of ownership' and your bank details.

Is the return amount fixed? or can that vary?

No, it’s fixed return we are offering to our funders.

How many goats can a person buy?

One person can buy a maximum of 05 goat on shares worth maximum BDT 52,500.

Can anyone fund from outside Bangladesh?

Yes, but the funder needs to have a valid bank account in Bangladesh.

Does the price of goat increase over time?

Yes. The price of mutton today is double of what it was five to seven years ago. It is, therefore, safe to forecast that the value of your goat will also grow in the same measure over the next few years. Your funds also grow with the growth of the physical weight of the goat over time as well as the general appreciation in the price of mutton. This is why the goat is a great store of wealth.

Can I visit the farm/ farmer managing my goat?

Yes you may. You only have to inform us in advance to ensure that you get the best welcome possible.
